Since today is Valentine’s Day and in keeping with engagement season, I thought I’d share Elina & Kyle’s classy military engagement session from the Philadelphia Navy Yard! Kyle is a pilot in the Marines and fly’s Harrier jets (yea – the jets that take off and land straight up and down.)
When I arrived at their hotel inside of the Navy Yard, Elina and Kyle stepped off the elevator dressed to the 9’s! I thoroughly enjoyed photographing Elina in her stunning red dress with her arm candy, shined and pressed with attention to every detail of his dress blues.
On his tours overseas, Elina & Kyle constantly wrote letters to each other. Every letter is saved in beautiful silver box inscribed with their names, locations, and a beautiful sentiment, “7000 miles, Only One Look Apart. Just before we left for the casual part of their engagement in Old City Philly, they sat on the stoop of a nearby building, and read through a few of the letters from that packed little box. It’s a quiet image, one that can easily be passed over if one doesn’t know the meaning. I can’t help but think of how meaningful those letters are and how strengthened their relationship must have become because of them.
I read a quote about military marriages recently and I thought the sentiment was fitting here, so I’ll leave you with this, “A solider doesn’t fight because he hates whats in front of him; he fights because he loves what he left behind.”
